Revelations 1:9-20

Vision of the Son of Man

9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11 saying,  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”  12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. 17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.  18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.  19 Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.  20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.  NKJV

Revelation 4:1-5

The Throne Room of Heaven

(Isa 6:1-3)

4 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”  2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thundering, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.  NKJV

Daniel 7:13-14

13 “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven!  He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.  14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.  His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.  NKJV

The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly

A         1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.  3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.  4 The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.  5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.  NKJV

SERMON NOTES| “HOW BIG IS YOUR GOD?”

“I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me.  And when I turned, I saw…”

Big Idea: God is “bigger” than what I or my experience have imagined!  HE CANNOT BE LIMITED BY MY LIFE EXPERIENCES, HE CANNOT BE CONFINNED TO A CHURCH; HE CANNOT BE REDUCED BY SMALL IMAGINATION!

  • When we see him for who he really is – The God who is, Big enough, to handle our questions, doubts, and fears, who is worthy of our worship – it will change everything about our lives!

COMPLICTION: Do I have a God big enough for my present needs?  Has my view of God changed with my growth?

“John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus   “

Being in a place or a situation that seems bigger than my perspective of God.  We need things that baffle us; they can move us toward curiosity and wonder.

“On the Lord’s day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet…”

Point: When we see him for who he really is – the God who is big enough to handle our questions, doubts, and fears, who is worthy of our worship – it will change everything about our lives!

“I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me.  And when I turned, I saw…”

God is taking us to a different level.  Therefore; we need to:

  1. We need to Read the Word
  2. We need to Reflect on the Word
  3. We need to Remember the Word
  4. We need to Rehearse the Word
